Deodorants address odour, which comes from bacteria breaking down sweat, rather than sweat itself. Antiperspirants, which reduce sweating, are a different and regulated product type.
Most deodorants here rely on ingredients such as baking soda, magnesium hydroxide, zinc ricinoleate or plant powders, in a base of butters and oils.
Reading the label
- Baking soda
- Sodium bicarbonate is a common odour neutralizer. Some people find it irritating; formulas without it usually say so on the front.
- Switching from antiperspirant
- A deodorant will not stop sweating. That is how the product type works, not a property of any one formula.
