Body scrubs combine a granular exfoliant, most often sugar, salt or ground coffee, with oils or a cleansing base. The particles buff the skin, and the oils are left behind as a light layer.
Sugar dissolves as you use it and is usually considered softer on skin than salt. Whether a scrub suits your skin is your call; the seal covers the ingredients.
Reading the label
- Foaming scrubs
- A scrub that foams has a surfactant in it as well as oils, so it cleanses and exfoliates in one step.
- Water in the jar
- Keep water out of an oil-and-sugar scrub. Most are formulated without water, and adding it can affect how the product keeps.
