Face makeup covers a large area of skin and is often worn all day, so the base ingredients matter as much as the colour.
Mineral foundations are mostly powders: pigments, mica and minerals such as zinc oxide, with few other ingredients.

- Zinc oxide in makeup
- Zinc oxide shows up in mineral foundations. Unless the product carries a tested SPF claim, it should not be treated as sun protection.
- Shade ranges
- As with lip colour, a "may contain" list covers pigments across all shades.
